FLOURISH FOLK SCHOOL:  120-HOUR HERBAL TRAINING PROGRAM

60 hours in person (1-2 days per month in-person classes: opportunity for more in-person time if needed)

60 hours of online content (1 hour per month of live virtual meetings) plus 48 hours of self-paced online content)

Program Details: 

Learn herbalism on an organic herb farm in Godfrey, IL

Introduction to Herbalism- learn over 36 medicinal herbs, their herbal actions, and concepts, as well as indications and contraindications for use

Basic Botany (learn plant ID, plant families, genus & species)

Explore local ecology (hike through woodlands, forests, and riverways to identify flora & fauna)

Learn how to identify and forage for abundant wild plants

Learn how to grow, harvest, and store medicinal herbs

Make a myriad of medicinal preparations (learn how to make tinctures, glycerin extracts, tea blends, oxymels, syrups, infused honeys, and pastilles)

Learn how to make lotion, salve, lip balm, bath salts, and soap

Gain real hands-on experience on an organic farm

Requirements:

-Bring required supplies each session (jars, supplies for tinctures, oxymels, and oil infusions (vodka, vinegar, olive oil) 

- Must be willing to work at the farm for 1 hour during each session (hands-on learning through a variety of tasks including planting, weeding, watering, mulching, and harvesting)

- Must be willing to work in various weather conditions 

- Come with a positive attitude and willing to be a part of an intimate and inclusive herbal community

- Commit to all sessions

- Must have reliable transportation
On-Farm sessions take place one Sunday per month (date subject to change if inclement weather or at organizers discretion)

HANDS-ON FARM EXPERIENCE:

- Propagation Techniques including growing from seed, stem propagation, root division, and transplanting

- Requirements for plants (sun, water, spacing, maintenance)

- Weeding techniques (sheet mulching, tools for cultivation, occultation, solarization, cover crops)- Harvesting and drying techniques and methods 

- Basic herbal preparations (tinctures, glycerin extracts, tea blends, oxymels, syrups, infused honeys, pastilles, salves)

- Ethical foraging at Flourish farm plus plant walks throughout a variety of ecosystems. 

COST OF PROGRAM:$1200
Pay in full $1,000 (prepayment discount of $200)
Payment program ($200 non-refundable deposit)  plus 10 monthly automatic payments of $100
